Very Personal Questions: John Ware

John Ware has been making some moves in the past 2 seasons. He made some serious waves during the Nike Chosen video contest last season. Not stopping there, he continued filming a banger segment with 4Bi9 Media's latest installment (TBA).

Yo John, how was summer?!? You get some good skiing in up at Mt. Hood?
This summer was my most memorable yet. I came to Hood in June fresh off of a month of surfing and traveling in Costa Rica, so I was definitely ready to get back on my skis. I coached the majority of the summer up there but made sure I was getting some quality ski time in as well. Riding in the summer is crazy though and can be a lot more challenging than the winter, but its nice to be able to feel out some new tricks and get more comfortable on my skis.

You got to shred w/ the crew for Surface Week. Who was killing it this year?
It was dope to have the whole crew together that week. Everyone showed up hungry and I saw a lot of dope shit go down. But I have to say, for having not skied for a few months, Kiesel definitely reminded everyone that he don’t fuck around!

Its teaser season in the ski/snowboard world. You put in a ton of work with 4bi9 again. How did that go?
This last year was by far my most productive season. I was eager to get off to an early start filming for a segment, so AJ, Napes and I linked up and made it happen. Once that first shot came, all I wanted was more. We went on a few cool trips and I was able to get enough shots to put a full seg together. Keep an eye out for something nice from 4bi9 this fall.

Whats your favorite part about working with AJ and the 4bi9 crew?
Its gotta be the fact that we are always riding and hitting features with people that we really like to ski with, and everyone brings something different to the table. Each time we go out to hit something, you are guaranteed to laugh for a good portion of it, as well as see some crazy ass shit go down.

You are a recent engineer grad, right? Stoked to be done?
Yeah man, I put my head down in school for the last 5 years and came out with a Civil Engineering degree this past spring. It feels super nice to be done and I’m enjoying my freedom to the fullest right now, although the bills are starting to come in quick. The engineering career may come into sight sooner than expected…

Speaking of engineering, you had a hand in developing this new park ski for Surface, the LAB 002. Was that cool?
Having the chance to help design a ski was so damn cool. Just the thought of having a perfect park ski is something everyone dreams of, and to see it come to life is amazing. The LAB 002 is gonna turn some heads for sure.

You got to ski the first prototype in August right? How did it ski right out of plastic?
When I got the first sample in the mail in mid August, I was super eager to test them out. I was living at home in Portland, so it worked out perfect because Hood had just opened a new public park, which was better than any park they had on the glacier all summer long. The skis are proper. A lot of companies have been going overboard with rocker technology, so with the LAB I really wanted to bring back a traditional park ski that makes sense for what we are doing up there, and I think we hit it right on.

Whats on the agenda this winter? Living in SLC again?
I’m moving back to Salt Lake in a couple weeks and want to work my ass off and save some money for a few months before the snow falls. I love skiing with everyone out there and hope to start a couple new projects as well as film with 4bi9 again this season.

Any last words?
Thanks for all the support… much love to my family!
